Greetings, readers! I’d like to take a moment to share a bit of my life with you. Allow me to introduce myself…

My name’s Maggie. That’s not short for Margaret; just Maggie. I’m currently embarking on my senior year of college at Appalachian State. I’m majoring in Elementary Education with hopes of becoming a really spectacular teacher someday. I also have a real passion for health and nutrition and I would love to further my education to perhaps become a Registered Dietitian. I’m so concerned about the health of today’s youth. Childhood obesity is overwhelming our country and I feel strongly about doing something to stop it. I want to be able to teach my students the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Issues such as proper nutrition and physical activity are vital to a child’s education and you better believe it’s going to be a priority in my classroom! Oh, boy. I could go on about this for days. Let’s proceed.
There’s something I should make pretty clear. I LOVE FOOD. Not just food, GOOD food. Food that’s delicious and nutritious and real. In fact, I think it’s safe to say I’m obsessed with food, but I’m okay with that. I love everything about food; cooking it, taking pictures of it, shopping for it, and of course eating it. I love seafood. I don’t eat red meat and I rarely eat pork or poultry. You could say I’m a pescatarain, but let’s not get too technical. I enjoy buying organic and local foods when possible, but sometimes it gets a little pricey so I have to compromise. Just for fun, here are a few of my favorite eats: hummus, peanut butter, cereal, spinach, feta cheese, avocados, oatmeal, bread, sushi, gelato, bananas, sweet potatoes, blueberries, goat cheese, black beans, mushrooms, chocolate, waffles, tofu,…okay, you get the point. I’m hungry.
Here are few foodie photos from my recent trip to Chicago. Chicago’s an incredible city and I can’t wait to go back. Trust me folks, this town knows how to eat! Everything I ate while visiting “The Windy City” was PHENOMENAL!

A few other things I enjoy:
Harry Potter, my pup, working out, drinking hot tea, my family, yoga, shopping, Chicago, exploring new places, trying new restaurants, The Office, my boyfriend, dancing like a crazy fool, singing, hydrangeas, The Travel Channel, reusable grocery bags, candles, autumn, breakfast, kids, playing frisbee, naps, baked goods, British accents, snow days, coffee shops, produce stands, Christmas, The King of Queens, music, toasters, and owls.
Meet Bailey, my toy poodle. Isn’t he handsome?

Oh, and my main squeeze, David, is pretty cute too.

Yeah, David goes to East Carolina. We don’t see each other much during the school year, but absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? He’s my dream boat. We go to the gym together and discuss important issues like what we’re going to name our dogs when we get a place of our own. He puts up with me and for that I applaud him.

Things I’m not so fond of:
Fast food, cigarettes, spiders, drying my hair, televised sporting events, green olives, jello, ridiculously hot weather, politics, my feet, being rushed, messiness in general, seeing little old men out in public by themselves, most school lunch programs, text messaging, tummy aches, scary movies, fruit flies, trampolines, and hypocrites.
I don’t like talking about things I don’t like, so I’d rather not dwell on the subject. Just know that all the things listed above are either disgusting, terrifying, annoying, or heartbreaking in my opinion.
Oh, gee…
I’m not really sure how to describe my personality. I’m usually in a pretty peppy mood, but not always. I have to admit, I like having things my way. I like it when everything goes as planned. I’m not a huge fan of spontaneity. I like to laugh and I like making others laugh. It makes me feel more comfortable speaking in front of others if I can exchange a little playful banter. Otherwise, I tend to get extremely nervous and my face and ears get really hot and my voice gets all shaky. You know what I’m talking about. I’m semi-outgoing and easy to get along with, so let’s be buds.
“And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.” - Albus Dumbledore
A common misconception: I dye my hair. Nope, it’s just that black. A trait I certainly inherited from my dad. I’ve got rather large eyes. Not such a good thing in my opinion, but folks often compliment them. They’re probably just being nice, while secretly thinking “Man, that gal’s got some big eyes!” I have a few freckles here and there. I’ve got a pretty decent smile, I suppose. Thanks, mom and dad for the braces. I could easily spout off loads of things I don’t like about my body, but I’m learning to get a grip. No body is perfect. I’m just me. I’ll always look like me and that’s just fine. It’s time we taught children (girls especially) to embrace themselves as beautiful individuals so they don’t grow up plagued with body image issues . As a teacher it will be my responsibility to ensure that every child in my class feels loved and beautiful and special. It’s just difficult to compete with the images and messages the media sends to our nation’s children every time you turn around. Oh me, that’s another soapbox.

I’m an odd ball, no doubt. I talk to myself frequently, I like Harry Potter way too much, and I’m obsessed with food. But hey, that’s what makes me, me.

Maggie! You are a wonderful writer! I loved reading the part about favorite foods and about your dislikes. Those were pretty funny. We have a lot in common (except squash, apparently!) I agree with eating good, healthy, tasty food. It’s one of the best things in the world! Those pictures you took look scrumptious! Oh…and Chicago….AMAZING. If you ever go back, I’ll probably be there hanging out at Navy Pier. Bailey is absolutely adorable!!! You and David are also ADORABLE! This is a great page and it really shows off what kind of person you are!
